As the morning mist spreads across the Sauerland hills, the flowering heathland reveals its purple robe with the first rays of sunshine. Enjoy this unique landscape during the 8th High Heath Day and learn more about the care of these areas.

High heathland habitats have become rare throughout Europe since the mid-19th century. Heathland vegetation requires regular management for its sustainable preservation – after all, it is a true cultural landscape.

Program overview:

The Hoogheidedag begins with premium hikes organized by hiking clubs from surrounding villages. Information about the hikes can be found at www.hochheidetag.de

10:30 am: Option for a rustic breakfast at the Graf Stolberg Hut (own expense)

Clearing at the Kahler Pön (about a 20-minute walk from the Graf Stolberg hut):

12:00 noon: Ecumenical Church Service

12:45 pm: Theme walks (starting at Kahler Pön):

– Bergheide tour (duration approx. 90 minutes)

– History of the raised bog (duration approx. 60 minutes)

– Forest bathing (duration approx. 60 minutes)

Afterwards: Possibility to have coffee at the Graf Stolberg hut (at your own expense)

4:30 PM: End of the event / return walk of the various walking groups
